The future of laser technology
What is the future of laser technology? We already have lasers used in everything from tattoo removal to nuclear reactors. We use it daily in our CD or DVD players and just take it for granted, but the technology and applications of lasers are constantly being explored, the boundaries pushed back and our knowledge and understanding of them increased.
They have already made their way into medical science with great and positive effect, and I don’t just mean laser hair removal. Medical lasers are used for everything from cosmetics to cutting out cancer growths and treating issues causing or which could lead to infertility.
Maybe one of the areas where it has most interested people is in weapons technology. This is in part due to films because it’s easier to make an action film about aliens trying to drill a hole in a planet or blow up spaceships with lasers than it is to write one about a surgery which was made more successful with no infection and a shorter healing process because of the technology employed.
The arms industry has found many ways to use lasers, from targeting small arms or missiles, to projects looking to put lasers in space for the purpose of shooting down nuclear missiles. They have experimented with using laser in place of radar and even using powerful lasers to blind enemy soldiers, making them ineffective.
